Haida Picture Appreciation | July 2025
This month's Picture Appreciation is here, let's appreciate some amazing photos taken by our excellent official Haida Ambassadors with Haida filters!
Moody Blue Light in Wanaka
Photo location: Wanaka, South Island, New Zealand
This image brings back such special memories from last year’s photo tour with an absolutely fantastic group. We stood together in silence as the soft blue light crept across the lake, capturing the iconic tree in a peaceful 1-minute long exposure using a Haida Red-Diamond filter.
There’s something so grounding about slowing things down. Just you, the camera, and nature doing its thing.
I always knew that one day I’d see this little willow tree with my own eyes. Some might say it’s been photographed too often, but I never get tired of its beautiful variations. Sunrise, sunset, or even midday. The Wanaka Tree is always a highlight of our New Zealand Photo Tour.
A stunning lone tree in a lake, and without a doubt, one of the most photogenic trees in the world.
Can’t wait to return and create more moments like this.

The boiling sea
This picture was taken on the Outer Hebrides in Scotland, on the Island of Lewis. This is the northern tip of Lewis near the lighthouse there. I was totally fascinated by the wild and boiling sea, smashing against the rocks. The rocks somewhat framed the sea. There was a very strong wind which made it difficult to get longexposures. We would have liked to do a hike on the cliffs, but we were almost blown off the hills by the wind.

The Watch of Ribeira da Janela
According to an old legend, two brothers who disrupted nature’s balance were turned to stone by the sea gods. Since then, they’ve stood guard over Madeira’s coast – one tall and proud, the other bowed in remorse.
When the sky turns violet and the waves crash, it’s said their whispers can be heard in the wind – an eternal vow to the sea.

Up and out shooting very early in the city at 4am to capture some beautiful rising fog at sunrise. I opted to use my magnetic cpl filter to add to the mood of the shot creating more contrast between the clarity of the buildings in the foreground to the moody fog scene in the distance.
